The suspect in the case of reckless driving that caused a 16-year-old girl to lose her legs has entered his plea.

21-year-old Daniel Riley was speeding downtown this February when he struck Janae Edmondson, who was visiting from out of town for a volleyball tournament. Edmondson spent more than a month in the hospital and rehab before she finally returned home at the end of March.

Riley's attorney pleaded not guilty to all five counts, including driving without a license, assault and armed criminal action. Riley is held without bond awaiting trial. His case sparked the ongoing effort by the Missouri Attorney General to remove Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner from office. He had been out on bond for an unrelated crime when the crash occurred, and had repeatedly violated the conditions of his bond.

Edmondson recently made her first public appearance since the crash occurred, with a visit to her high school. Her family is still raising money to cover medical costs on GoFundMe.
