ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Mayor has asked FEMA for a thirty day extension. Allowing residents hit by the May 16th to apply for federal assistance.
In a facebook post Spencer says:
"We're still seeing hundreds of people apply every week and sustained foot traffic at the Disaster Recovery Centers.
When your life is suddenly completely changed, gathering all the information needed to make the best possible application can take time, and we cannot let an arbitrary deadline stand in the way of equitable recovery.
Spencer goes on to say: "I hope to have good news on a deadline extension soon, but there are no guarantees, so please apply before the Aug. 26 deadline if you can."
The St. Louis Board of Aldermen sent a letter to Spencer in support of her efforts.

As of right now, the deadline to submit a FEMA clam is Tuesday, August 26th. You can apply at https://www.disasterassistance.gov/, You can also apply on the FEMA app, or call 600-621-3362.
