ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson says a "mega" vaccination site will be announced in the city soon.

She says the event will be able to administer twice the amount of vaccinations as compared to the current mass vaccination events.

"We are expecting to be able to announce a 'mega' vaccination event in coordination with the state," Krewson says. "Hopefully some time this week we will be able to announce that. We are working with them on that."

She says the event would likely use the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, since it is a "one-shot" vaccination.

The "mega" event would likely be similar to an event planned in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium, announced by Gov. Mike Parson last week. The event is expected to administer at least 6,000 doses from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

No location or other details about the coming St. Louis event were announced by Krewson.

"We're looking forward to that," Krewson says. "We're going to continue to administer as many vaccinations as we possibly can and to partner with the state on a 'mega' vaccination event that we hope to announce here shortly."

Krewson recapped the most recent mass vaccination results in the city, saying that Saturday was the 14th event of its kind. She says they administered 1,500 first doses and 200 second doses. On Sunday, St. Louis also administered 316 second doses at the St. Louis Housing Authority.

Krewson says 38,000 people in STL have received at least one vaccination and about 20,000 people have both a first and second dose.
