ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - The head of the agency that runs MetroLink maintains that security is improving, despite the murder of a security guard at the Delmar Loop station.
"We have gone through months of a security plan that we are showing progress on, ok?" Bi-State Development Chief Executive Taulby Roach told KMOX's Charlie Brennan and Amy Marxkors Tuesday morning. "Overall our trends in crime numbers have been going on and we've been seeing improvements over the last several months."
Roach explained that security plan was developed following a comprehensive review of MetroLink safety.
He says arming private guards wouldn't comply with the federal compact authorizing the transit system. And Roach told Charlie Brennan that area police partners want firearms kept in the hands of trained officers.
"What I'm trying to say to you Charlie is that we have a comprehensive plan that incorporates very strong partnerships with our own police partners and that creates a situation where we have fully armed officers on the system," Roach says.
James Cook, 30, was shot and killed Sunday morning at the Delmar Loop station while working for a private security firm hired by MetroLink. Cook was a Marine with combat experience.
