Metro Link is getting a huge grant to buy new rolling stock.

The Federal Transit Administration announced $196-million is going to be sent to Bi-State Development to buy around 45 light rail train cars. The funding will allow Metro to replace 25 of their original 30 cars, which have now seen 30-years of service. They debuted in July, 1993 with the original line.

The agency is in talks with Siemens on a final price for the new cars. Congress passed a massive infrastructure bill in 2021 that is providing the grant money.

Bi-State Development President Taulby Roach credits a unified legislative delegation for securing the funding.
