MASCOUTAH, IL (KMOX) - Saying it is St. Louis' airport for post-pandemic travel, MidAmerican Airport in Mascoutah is looking to add seven new destinations and help Allegiant Airlines establish a base there.
In an application for a federal grant, MidAmerica says post-pandemic travelers will be budget-focused and not schedule-focused – and looking for the convenience of a smaller, less expensive airport. It's asking for $490,000 dollars to help offset start-up costs, fund a crew and aircraft base for Allegiant Airlines and marketing.
It's targeting two to four flights a week to and from Newark, Denver, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego and Orange County, California.
Currently, Allegiant serves 12 markets out of Mid America. Airport officials say they are hoping to expand that service next spring and beyond.
If it gets the federal grant, local sources would chip in $160,000 to help expand service.
