ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Public Schools announced Thursday that the St. Louis Board of Education has voted to name Millicent Borishade it's permanent superintendent.
The board voted 4-1 to approve Borishade. The vote was held during a special meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18th.
Borishade had been serving as the interim superintendent since July 2024, when former Superintendent Keisha Scarlett was placed on "temporary leave of absence"
Scarlett would wound up getting her contract terminated in October 2024.
"Dr. Borishade has demonstrated strong, thoughtful leadership during her time as Interim Superintendent," said SLPS Board President Antoinette “Toni” Cousins in a news release.
"Her focus on student achievement, operational excellence, and building strong community partnerships has been invaluable. We’re excited to continue working with her as she leads SLPS forward."
The decision to approve Borishade as permanent superintendent comes a week after Board of Education approved a new transportation partnership with Zum to provide student transportation services for SLPS.
The district says one of Dr. Borishade’s top priorities as Superintendent will be to oversee the district’s transition to a new transportation provider, Zum, for the 2025-26 school year. She is scheduled to meet with Zum CEO on Monday, Feb. 24th.
SLPS will host a press conference on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 8:30 a.m. at Meramec Elementary School.
In addition, the board also voted 4-1 to appoint Ben Conover to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Education. The vacancy, which was created in January, has now been filled, restoring theboard to its full seven-member capacity.
