Representative Ed Lewis says it's in response to so many people dying alone during the pandemic. "At all times, no matter what the situation, if you're incapacitated and you're in a hospital, you should have the ability for someone to be able to speak there on your behalf."
Lewis' own mother died alone in a hospital during the pandemic, and neither she nor the others n the hospital had COVID. The legislative session ends Friday evening.
