ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - You should consider yourself pretty lucky to be driving on Missouri highways as opposed to some other states. A new study from the Reason Foundation shows Missouri has the second-best highway system in the nation, in terms of overall cost-effectiveness and condition.
Missouri is up one spot on the ranking from last year.
The Reason Foundation's 25th Annual Highway Report finds North Dakota, Missouri, and Kansas have the nation's best state-owned road systems. The Show Me State was No. 1 in both total spending per mile, and capital and bridge costs per mile.

And it's pavement condition for rural and urban interstates were pretty good too, at Nos. 10 and 16 respectively.
However, there's some room for improvement as Missouri was ranked 31st in overall fatality rate and 33rd in structurally deficient bridges.
