(KMOX) The number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases continues setting records in Missouri, Illinois and some of their St. Louis area counties.
On Saturday, Missouri reported 4,599 new cases, setting a record for the third straight day. It's the first time the state has reported more than 4,000 cases in a single day.
Franklin County also reported a record 108 cases. Over the past two weeks, that county is averaging nearly 54 cases a day with a testing positivity rate of over 17 percent.
On Friday, Jefferson County reported a record 200 cases, which Health Department Director Kelley Vollmar said was a particular concern with the holidays approaching, as residents plan to travel and spend time with vulnerable loved ones.
A day after Illinois set a record 10,376 new cases, Monroe County reported 42 new cases on Saturday. The county also saw an additional death at a nursing home.
While he says everything should be on the table to control the spread, Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force Leaer Dr. Alex Garza says he's not sure you can issue enough public health orders to have an impact. "Really when it comes down to it, "he says, "it is down to that individual and person decision to have an impact. If enough people do that then you can be successful."
Garza says it just can't be some groups of people, but everyone across the region has to get on board. He says you should act like coronavirus is wherever you are
