After slashing funding for libraries and organizations with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies, the Missouri House sent its version of the state budget along to the Senate — and the Senate made some changes.
The Senate passed the $50 billion budget late Tuesday night, stripping some of the measures pushed by conservatives. The House then rejected the Senate's budget the following morning. Budget Chairman Cody Smith said it's been a complicated process.
"There's been a little bit of confusion about what was in the bills, what was not in the bills, what was said in committee and what made its way into the legislation," Smith said. "So we're still kind of learning about the changes. But I'm gonna make the motion to go to conference as we do."
The Conference Committee hashes out the differences every year, then both chambers give final approval, which they'll have to do by May 5.
