Tears filled the room and hugs were exchanged at the Stop the Ban watch party as it was announced Amendment 3 failed. It was an attempt at a redo of the 2024 vote to restore access to abortion in Missouri, repealing the 2024 results and restricting access to abortion and trans youth healthcare.
"We are the Show Me State," said Mallory Schwartz with Abortion Action Missouri "tonight we showed them they better listen."
Schwartz called the Yes on 3 campaign an attempt to divide voters.
"Politicians levied a whole campaign trying to divide us and attack abortion and overturn our vote, but Missourians saw through these lies, and we rejected them outright."
Amendment 3 if passed would have also banned trans healthcare for youths, something already illegal in Missouri. Still, Shira Berkowitz with PROMO says this is a victory for trans kids.
"My biggest hope is that those kids aren't celebrating right now because they don't know what nearly happened tonight." said Berkowitz, adding "The greatest gift that we can give our kids is just to be kids."
Amendment 3 fell 44.5% to 55.5%
