Illinois comes at number 32, Missouri number 40 -- on the United Health Foundation's 11th America's Health Rankings Senior Report.
Missouri's strengths were identified as a low prevalence of frequent mental distress and a high volunteerism rate.
Illinois had a low prevelance of excesssive drinking and a high flu vaccination rate among seniors.
Illinois challenges included high rates of obesity, food insecurity and lack of physical activity.
Two of Missouri's big concerns were a high early death rate and low prevalence of fruit and vegetable consumption.
The best state for senior health is Utah, the worst is Mississippi.
