SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - One in ten people between the ages of 55 and 64 have started a new business in the last three years. There's a new effort to connect these later-in-life entrepreneurs in our region. It's called STL Encore Connect.

Small business organizations in the region are seeing a definite trend. "One of the fastest growing segments is individuals age 55 to 64," Colleen Mulvihill, an SBDC Business Counselor and a Small Business Development Manager at the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, "they actually account for over 25 percent of all new businesses across the country."

Mulvihill tells KMOX's Total Information AM, some people want a different lifestyle, others want a way to supplement income in retirement.

"There are so many individuals who have been working at a job and are experts in their field for 30, 40 years," adds Kevin Wilson, executive director of the St. Louis Small Business Empowerment Center, "and now want to utilize that same knowledge, that same expertise in their own venture."

STL Encore Connect will host it's first virtual meeting on Tuesday, June 23rd.
