ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louisans love their Labrador Retrievers.
The American Kennel Club says those dogs remain the top AKC-recognized breed in the region, as well as nationwide.
The group uses 2021 registration data from local zip codes, as provided by the U.S. postal service.
The rest of the top five breeds in St. Louis are: Golden Retriever, French Bulldog, German Shepherd, and Bulldog.
"Labs are well-loved throughout the nation," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "St. Louis is no exception - there's something about Labs that has great appeal for many different lifestyles."
For more than ten years, the Labrador Retriever has been St. Louis's most popular. Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds have also been in the top five historically for the city.
The top five dog breeds nationally are: Labrador Retriever, French Bulldog, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, and Poodle.
