Customers in the neighborhood of Ellendale told KMOX, sewage filled their homes Tuesday and for some, this is the third time in seven years with no compensation from MSD Spokesperson Sean Hadley tells KMOX that over-land flooding is not the utility's responsibility.

Hadley said the MSD does have assistance programs for when the sewer system gets more water than it can handle.

He said as of Thursday, they've received 1,300 flood related calls, and of those, MSD is taking responsibility for 500. That number does not include any calls from late Thursday when another round of torrential rains hit many of the same areas.

Hadley adds, property owners are responsible for obtaining flood insurance in high risk areas.
