On Thursday, President of the St. Louis chapter of the NAACP Adolphus Pruitt said that calls from state officials for Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner to resign were "unwarranted." Pruitt joined The Show on KMOX to share his position.

Two of the officials calling for Gardner's resignation or removal were Attorney General Andrew Bailey and Senate Pro Tem President Caleb Rowden. Pruitt said their calls are unwarranted because the events of the last week involving Gardner have been misconstrued.

"Folks have said that the young man who committed this heinous act should have been not out on bail, and that the Circuit Attorney never sought to have his bill reduced or rejected and have him locked up. And because of that, she no longer is fit to be in office. But at the end of the day, it turns out that's just not the case," Pruitt explained.

He added that if Bailey and Rowden want Gardner to be removed, it should at least be justified with facts versus what he called a "miscarriage of justice" — using facts that aren't real.

Pruitt said that media and other organizations are focusing too much on the missteps of administrative offices, rather than looking at what the office has accomplished.

"The only thing, only set of facts here to go by is this set of negative facts and that would be the example with any case, with any industry," he said.
