When it comes to getting a gas tax rebate, there's an app for that.
July began with an increase in the fuel tax in Missouri, by 2 1/2 cents a gallon. But you can get a refund on that added tax by submitting receipts for the gas you buy. Tammi Hilton of Tamilytics of St. Charles developed an app that makes it easy for Missourians to keep track of their purchases.
"What we're doing inside of the app is keeping track of every single transaction," Hilton explained. "People are able to upload their gas receipts, keep track of the seller information, the number of gallons they purchased, and the price per gallon on every single transaction."
She said the app will help not only people looking for rebates, but also the state.
"The app for me was just a gap between what the state of Missouri was able to do and what I think missourians were looking for," she said. "I think we have a really good product out there that can help not only Missourians, but the state of Missouri process those refunds a lot more efficiently."
The app is available at nomogastax.com for $4.99 or in the App store. Hilton said she was surprised to find out it's not just for Missouri residents, but anyone who buys gas in the state can get the refund. The rebate applies to vehicles under 26,000 pounds.
