Former St. Louis health director Pamela Walker resigned just one day after being confirmed by the Board of Alderman. In a letter to the mayor posted on Twitter, Walker said the Alderman failed to approve two crucial nominees to the independent jail oversight board. They are Freedom Community Center's Mike Milton and civil rights activist, Reverand Darryl Gray.

Walker says the decision not to include them sets up the board for a contentious relationship with the social justice community. The board was created as a permanent way to handle concerns by guards and inmates over jail safety, health care, and other issues.
