City Hall has made a deal with St. Louis Police that raises their salaries by a total of $16 million a year.
Under the new plan, starting officers would make $54,000 instead of $50,000. Salaries would increase eight percent for officers with less than ten years of experience, ten percent for officers with more than ten years, and 12 percent for officers with more than 20.
The deal is off, however, if the Missouri legislature and the Governor move to return control of the police department to the state. Advocates pushing for state control of the police say the deal doesn't change anything for them — it's still full speed ahead.
