The Missouri Department of Transportation is asking for patience from drivers as they battle a blast of winter, especially since some of the drivers are brand new.

For months, MoDot officials have been talking about their staff shortage. Assistant District Engineer Michelle Forneris says they continue to face limitations due to understaffing.
Forneris says the agency is moving personnel around the state to areas where the worst weather is anticipated.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to stay in the vehicles, if they slide off the road in slick conditions. They say too often, people get out of the car, walk around, and are struck when another vehicle loses control. If you do encounter trouble on the roads during the winter storm, turn on your emergency flashers and dial *55 to talk directly with the nearest troop headquarters.
500 members of the Missouri National Guard have been put on alert by Governor Parson. He activated the guard with an executive order. They will stand by, ready to assist the Missouri State Highway Patrol to help motorists and clear roads.
