ST. CLAIR COUNTY, IL (KMOX) - St. Clair Emergency Management director Herb Simmons tells KMOX News this is a car salvage business on Route 111, north of Interstate 55/70, North of Fairmont City.
Simmons says so far, there are no reports of injuries. Multiple fire agencies from St. Clair and Madison Counties are on the scene.
Simmons says neighboring communities are not in any danger, no evacuations have been ordered. Route 111 from 55/70 to Sand Prairie Lane due to the fire equipment coming and going.
Simmons says this is a large salvage yard, but is isolated and across the old Horse Shoe Lake fishing area with no homes around it.
A concern is the extreme heat for firefighters battling this large fire. But Simmons says EMS are standing by.
Simmons says St. Clair County Special Emergency Services are responding with what's called their rehab trailer. That where they can get the first responders checked out and cooled off.
Firefighters will likely remain on the scene well into the morning.
