SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - "We have to recognize that we have to give officers a break," says St. Louis Public Safety Director Dan Isom.

Isom says police officers are tired, after being mandated to work 12 hour shifts since June, "at the end of August, the citywide 12 hour mandatory shifts on the weekends will discontinue. Now that doesn't mean that we're not going to be working to find other ways that we can increase presence in areas that we need to."

The mandate was suppose to last into September. Public Safety Director Dan Isom says it was throughout the City to address the officer shortage. "We will continue to look at personnel and our manpower and try to adjust it to areas we think will have the most impact."
