ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — The pandemic has caused almost no problems at a major project north of downtown St. Louis.

That's according to McCarthy HITT Vice President of Operations Jeff Boyer, who says tells KMOX the massive project remains on schedule.

"We were really fortunate based on the timing of where we were on the project that we were able to weather the 'COVID storm'," he told KMOX.

Boyer says most of the building materials were purchased pre-pandemic. the design team was able to continue their work remotely, and construction continued without any major delays.

The NGA West office will have 700,000 square feet of space, and will be supported by roughly 5,000 tons of steel. By comparison, the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge has just over 7,300 tons of steel.

Right now, crews are putting together that steel to create the frame and shape of the eventual building, along with building the two parking garages on each side. Each will be capable of holding about 1,500 cars.

This phase of construction is expected to finish in November. From there, the exterior of the building will be built, using brick, precast concrete, and glass.

The entire project is set for completion in late 2023 or early 2024. NGA employees will begin moving in and the new facility will be fully up and running by 2025.
