St. Louis (KMOX)- A one-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head Friday evening, during an attempted carjacking in north St. Louis.
Police say the baby was in a vehicle with a 29-year-old woman at Pleasant and Kossuth at about 8:30 p.m., when the suspect tried to take the vehicle. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 22-year-old suspect in a nearby residence, suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman was not injured. Investigators don't yet know how the suspect was shot. He is in critical condition.
The baby was initially listed in critical and unstable condition, but police say that after surgery, her condition was upgraded to critical but stable.
Homicide detectives are investigating.
