It was a huge opening weekend for recreational marijuana sales in Missouri.
Jack Cardetti of the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association says $12.7 million was sold on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. "I think it just shows Missouri's a really well run program. Missouri Department of Health does a good job, taxes aren't too high which I know people complain about in Illinois and other places."
He says that's double what Illinois got in their debut 3 years ago. "Illinois' a state that has twice the population as Missouri, yet Missouri's opening day of marijuana sales almost doubled what we saw in Illinois on opening day back in January of 2020."
Cardetti also notes that voters only passed the legalization of recreational cannabis a few months ago, and the coordination to make it all work has been extraordinary.
