ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Police officer critically injured Monday after being struck by a car Monday, had a second surgery Tuesday.
St. Louis Police spokesman Mitch McCoy posted on twitter the 31-year old "officer has successfully completed his second surgery. He remains in critical condition but is stable and now resting. Please continue to pray for him and his recovery."
The Post Dispatch is reporting part of the officer's leg had to be amputated. This is not the first time this officer was seriously injured. KMOX asked Chief Robert Tracy when the previous injury happened, but he declined to answer the question, out of respect for the officer's family.
Tuesday, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore identified one of the three car- jackers and the 62-year old man who struck the officer and the suspect he was chasing.
18-year old Mekhi Campbell is facing several charges. Gore would not release the names of the other two suspects, however, he says they have been charged. One of the carjackers remains hospitalized in critical condition.
62-year old Frank Carr is accused of hitting the officer and the suspect and then leaving the scene. St. Louis Police asked for the public's help locating the Cadillac Carr was allegedly driving and Chief Tracy says within 25 minutes they were receiving tips from people, eventually leading to Carr's arrest.
Campbell, who Gore says was driving the stolen Acura, is charged with Assault First Degree on a law enforcement officer, Armed Criminal Action, Aggravated Fleeing a Stop, causing physical injury.
Frank Carr, the alleged driver of the Cadillac is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence. He was not involved with the initial incident or pursuit.
Gore is asking for that no bond be issued, but says a judge will make that decision.
