Peabody Energy says it will keep its headquarters in downtown St. Louis.
The coal giant had been agitating to leave downtown due to an increase in crime in general, but then bullets shattered some of their windows. Despite that, Peabody says it will now sign a 10-year lease to remain in place.
The company's chief administrative officer, Scott Jarboe, says there's no tax breaks, incentives or sweetheart deals at play. He says the city is more committed to public safety downtown and their dialogue with the mayor's office and the police department has improved.
