OAK GROVE, Mo. (KMOX) - Strangers are helping make a Missouri mother's wish come true after she died of COVID-19 while still nursing her youngest child.
Megan Richards, 32, planned to breastfeed her 5-month-old son Myles through his first birthday. Even after the mother of six contracted the coronavirus, along with the rest of her family, Richards continued to nurse her baby while sick in bed.
Unfortunately, Richards lost her battle with the virus and she died on Nov. 15. She was not vaccinated, according to Good Morning America.
But her plan to nurse her son will continue thanks to the kindness of strangers.
Richards' husband, Michael Richards and her sister, Brittany Eppenauer, launched a drive for breast milk donations and the response so far has been vast. In just a couple weeks since the effort started, more than 300 women have expressed interest in helping and more than 400 ounces of breast milk have been donated. The family also received a donated freezer to store the "liquid gold."
"It's overwhelming to know that other moms care that much, to make sure that we can fulfill my sister's wishes," Eppenauer told ABC News.
