ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Plans are announced that would change St. Louis' skyline, with a new high-rise.
The plan does away with the tower, with rotating restaurant, to transform it into a hub, connecting the Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium, and the Mississippi River.
The Gateway Arch Park Foundation has chosen The Cordish Companies to demolish and redevelop the long-vacant Millennium Hotel site in downtown St. Louis.
The $670 million plan includes upscale residences, office spaces, public areas, and cultural attractions.
"This redevelopment plan will transform the St. Louis skyline," said SLDC CEO and President Neal Richardson. "Working with Gateway Arch Park Foundation and The Cordish Companies on this project will provide the rejuvenation St. Louis desperately needs to transition into a world-class city."
President of the St. Louis Cardinals Bill DeWitt III said in a release that the Cardinals are excited about the vision for this site and believe it will be a fantastic addition to the Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village neighborhood--of which Cordish was instrumental in completing.
Ryan McClure, Executive Director of the Gateway Arch Park Foundation joined 'The Chris and Amy Show' to discuss the plan.
"The Gateway Arch Park Foundation went under contract to purchase the site in September of last year. It was about a three-year process to get to that point," said McClure. "We are doing this because we care about St. Louis. We need that site to be an economic driver for our region again."
The redevelopment plan will be officially reviewed by St. Louis City on Feb. 25.
