Both suspected have been charged with second-degree murder, but their names are not being released because they are juveniles. Both lived in Pacific in a trailer park near where the body was found, according to Franklin County law enforcement officials.

Officers responded to the area just outside of a trailer park near Highway 100 and Country Air Drive in Franklin County and found Kennedy's body. She was pronounced dead at the scene and was shot once in the chest, police say.

Officials says there was an altercation over narcotics and money which led to the fatal shooting.

The suspects were taken into custody later that evening and at least one of the suspects had a relationship with the victim, police say. The suspects led her to the location where she was eventually shot.

The 9mm pistol believed to be used in the shooting was recovered by police after interviews with the suspects.

A classmate of Kennedy told Fox 2 she found out about her death on Snapchat, just hours after talking to her.

“I kept calling after because, usually, she answers,” Gia Lakey told Fox 2. “Then, I found out the hard way, in just the worst way possible.”

Officials in the Rockwood School District were notified of her death and have made arrangements for students affected by the news, according to police. Last month, two students from Marquette High School – also in the Rockwood School District — were among three teens killed in a crash in Ballwin.
