UPDATE: Police identify victim of deadly shooting in Grove neighborhood

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- Police have released the name of the woman shot and killed Sunday night in the 41-hundred block of Manchester in the Grove neighborhood.

Police say 42-year old Shakena Williams was found at the QuikTrip on Vandeventer, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

A 40-year old man was shot in that same incident. He was taken to the hospital by an individual and was last reported in critical unstable condition.

City Public Safety director Dan Isom says surveillance cameras in the area have "been very helpful in us piecing together what happened."

"It looks like that incident will be solved," he said Monday. "We have a good idea of who was responsible for that."

Police say Williams and the male victim were wounded in the 41-hundred block of Manchester -- then went to the nearby gas station to get help.

Police received multiple calls for shots fired on different streets surrounding the Grove district around the same time of the double shooting.

The city of St. Louis homicide total for the year stands at 39 today. It was at 45 deaths this time last year and 34 the year prior.
