Wood River Police were called to Moe's Corner, a VP Fuels gas station on west Edwardsville Road early Tuesday morning around 1:40. A man was said to have entered the gas station showing a woman at the counter that he had a gun. The clerk called the police.

The man left and was seen on the porch of a home nearby but he eventually went back to the gas station. When police found him, he pointed his gun at them and they shot him.

Illinois State Police said the gun the 31-year-old man pointed at them was black in color. He was airlifted out but died from his injuries at the hospital.

His name has not been released. The only thing ISP said was that he was from East St. Louis.
