ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The snow is forecasted to begin early Saturday evening in the St. Louis Metro Region. AccuWeather expects between 1 to 2 inches of accumulation with possibly 3 inches to the Northwest of St. Louis.
National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the region. Senior Meteorologist, Thomas Spriggs said they’re seeing whiteout conditions with this system and people traveling need to be aware.
“Visibilities could drop very quickly today with the onset of the snow," Spriggs says. "Upstream observations from north, central Missouri report visibilities dropping very fast. We’ve seen a lot of places go from nothing at all to near whiteout conditions in less than an hour.”
Spriggs said, this is the first time this winter we’ve had a favorable pattern for Arctic air from northern Canada make it down to the Mississippi River Valley. The bitterly cold temperatures could last one to two weeks. Temperatures are expected to go down to the single digits and wind chills as low as negative 10 degrees.
