Catholic High School students rallied at the Cathedral Basilica Monday. They were out of class because teachers had called in sick over the ongoing contract dispute.

Teachers rejected the latest offer from the Archdiocese in early March, saying they had not been treated with dignity and respect in the negotiation process.

Both sides were back at the table Wednesday, issuing separate statements after saying progress was made in talks between the two sides. The statement from the St. Louis Archdiocesan Teachers Association saying "Although no tentative agreement was yet reached between St. Louis Archdiocesan Teachers Association (SLATA) and the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the parties did move closer to an agreement." SLATA says the deadline for individual teacher contacts to be signed was extended through mid-April. Teachers had asked for an extension as a sign of good faith.

The Archdiocese's statement: “The Archdiocese is pleased with what was accomplished this week with the St. Louis Archdiocesan Teachers Association and we look forward to the next scheduled meeting to begin finalizing the agreement with SLATA.”

Another meeting is scheduled for April 7.
