St. Louis City voters went to the polls Tuesday for a relatively low-stakes election.
The winner of the primary election for Aldermanic President to replace Lewis Reed was Alderman Megan Green. But because of a new voting system, Green will face the loser, Jack Coatar, again in November.
Some people questioned the purpose of this election. Director of Elections Gary Stoff said this one cost taxpayers about $75,000 to $100,000, though it might have cost three times that much if the city hadn't limited the number of polling places.
It was a close race, with Green winning 53% of the vote. Green had gotten endorsements from fellow progressives Cori Bush and Mayor Tishaura Jones.
Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Megan Green would finish out the rest of Lewis Reed's term. Neither of the candidates will take the position until after the November election.
