The all time daily rainfall record for St. Louis has been shattered.
The National Weather Service reports 8.06 inches of rain between midnight and 7 a.m. That beats the previous record of 6.85 inches set in August of 1915.
Areas around the city are concentrating their efforts on helping people stay safe. In Maryland Heights, the Community Center has opened its doors to anyone who is displaced and in need of emergency shelter.
Downtown, the extreme flooding conditions have closed the Gateway Arch. Representatives have reported that ticketing and tram operations are also closed today. People who purchased tickets for today will be refunded as soon as possible.
The City of St. Peters has also had to close recreation centers due to flooding. The Rec-Plex, Rec-Plex South and The Cove are closed until further notice.
Trash collection in St. Peters has also been delayed for one day, alongside the closures of Recycle City and Earth Centre.
