SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - The Red Cross is once again testing blood donors for COVID antibodies. "Hospitals have indicated they didn't need the convalescent plasma any more, there were so many different options," says Watson with Red Cross St. Louis, "now that has changed. They've asked us to resume the antibody testing for our donors."

"As they've done more studies, they've decided [convalescent plasma] is a valid option," adds Watson.

The Red Cross says while they work to make sure doctors have access to this treatment option for the most critically ill patients facing COVID-19, blood donations are still needed daily to help cancer patients, trauma victims and those with blood disorders.

Watson says the blood supply remains vulnerable.

Anyone who donates in March will receive a $10 e-gift card from Fanatics. They’ll also be entered to win a trip for two to the 2022 MLB® All-Star Game® in Los Angeles. Details are available at rcblood.org/team.
