Retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn was killed two years ago while providing security for Lee's Pawn Shop. Now, his widow, Sargent Ann Dorn is preparing for the trial of the man accused of killing him.

Stephan Cannon is charged with first-degree murder and the trial will begin next Monday morning. Ann Dorn says the trial coming up has just reminded her more of her late husband's death.

"It gets easier you think, and then something like this comes up, and it brings everything back to day one," she said.

Dorn said that the situation has really changed her perspective, and has given her a lot more empathy.

"Now the compassion I have, I can really relate to other people's feelings. I could relate before, but we tried to just not let our emotions get involved because we had a job to do," she said. "But being on the other side, the emotions are there and there's no controlling them."

She said she's feeling a little anxious about the trial, but overall hopeful.

"I just want everything to go well. I want the citizens on the jury to hear the truth and know that Dave was a good man and he didn't have to die."
