ST. LOUIS- A few major routes for Southwest Airlines are coming back to Lambert International Airport very soon.

Major routes like direct nonstop flights from St. Louis to San Francisco by Southwest will make it return to Lambert.

Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, Director of St. Louis Lambert International, joined KMOX Radio Michael Calhoun to discuss San Francisco returning to Southwest Airlines at Lambert.

St. Louis previously had direct flights to San Francisco, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the route to be removed.

Hamm-Niebruegge says the airport has been anxious to get the route back to Lambert and they were extremely glad that the route will return to the schedule.

"We served the California market well, along with alot of other destinations," Hamm-Niebruegge said, "With getting San Francisco, we'll have flights to all three major California markets now."

The flight to San Francisco was a major loss for Lambert during COVID-19, as the flight would routinely be a major route especially for the like of business travelers and tech-startup founders.

"We heard alot from the business traveler that they want San Francisco back," Hamm-Niebruegge said, "It's a market that they feel they deserve coming out of St. Louis. We were really pushing to get it back."

San Francisco one of few markets will be more of a presence at Lambert. Nonstop flights to San Antonio, Raliegh, and Philadelphia are going to be a bigger presence at the airport, with all three cities set to add another flight from Lambert.

The St. Louis to San Francisco direct flight will resume in March 2024.
