It’s Your Birthday, Inc (IYBI) was founded in 2014. Our mission to is to create a fun and memorable birthday experience for children in homeless and domestic violence shelters. We work primarily in the Greater St. Louis area. In an average year, we serve approx. 1,000 children in 18 shelters. This number includes 250 birthday children and others that attend the parties.
We currently have 5 birthday options for the parent, shelter, or child to select from to ensure the birthday is memorable. They include – 1. Birthday Party; 2. Birthday-in-a-Box; 3. Birthday Surprise; 4. Birthday-in-a-Class; and 5. Happy Born Day. With all of the birthday options, the child will receive fun toys and a build-a-bear or a choice of a variety of gift cards.

The services provided provide a sense of normalcy and help children to feel acknowledged and special. Taking the time to create a positive memorable experience for children is necessary for helping to combat the negative outcomes of trauma and housing insecurity. Our programs have the added benefit of helping the parent to reduce stress from having to worry about disappointing a child on their special day. If requested, parents are given credit for the parties or birthday surprises provided by IYBI, as we want the children to know their parents made the effort to help them have a special day on their birthday.
