St. Louis (KMOX) -- Several inmates were injured during another disturbance at the St. Louis City Justice Center over the weekend.

City spokesman Nick Dunne said roughly a dozen inmates attacked four others around 12:30 AM Saturday morning while they were in a recreation area on the fourth floor. The victims were taken to a hospital.

The inmates that officials could determine were involved in the attack were transferred to the city workhouse.

The latest disturbance was the seventh one in the past eight months at the downtown jail. That includes three in the past month.

Public Safety Director Dan Isom says the perception of what happened over the weekend is not good.

"Unfortunately, the combination of (the Justice Center) and the annex, we are trying to make sure that we separate the detainees in a way where we make it as safe as possible," Isom said.

Isom says significant upgrades need to be made to the Justice Center and, until that time, the annex at the workhouse will continue to house detainees.
