Yellow Fever is transmitted by mosquitoes and could potentially be deadly. While not a risk here in the U.S., it is for many people in more tropical countries and for those who travel there. Because of recent outbreaks of yellow fever, an additional vaccine is needed and this one is safe for people with egg allergies while the current one is not.
Lead researcher Dr. Sarah George, "The new vaccine is made without any eggs and it is a slightly lower dose than the existing vaccine."
SLU is hoping to enroll up to 70 healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 60 to study the safety of the new vaccine. Yellow Fever vaccination is required for travelers and military personnel going to certain African and South American countries where the yellow fever virus is present.
