ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- Unless it gets more lifeguards and supervisors, the City of St. Louis will not be opening its three outdoor swimming pools on Memorial Day weekend.

And maybe beyond, too.

Greg Hayes is the Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry for St. Louis. He tells KMOX they only have half the number of lifeguards and supervisors they need for summer. They're urging anyone who turned 15-years-old before April 30, 2021 to apply.

"There is immediate opportunity, especially for our youth. Our goal is to provide them with employment opportunities as their year ends.

"We don't have a target date but we want (the pools) open by at least the first weekend in June, which is right around the time schools get out. We're working feverishly to do anything we can to staff up," Hayes said.

The pay is $15 per hour and also provides training. You also don't have to be a teenager or a city resident to work there.
