Some St. Louis residents qualify for $500 COVID relief payments

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - City of St. Louis residents can begin applying for $500 direct payment starting on Dec. 18 as part of the federal government’s American Rescue Plan Act.

The payments will go to 9,300 households who suffered some loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That would include losing a job, reduced work hours, funeral expenses, medical bills, and more. St. Louis lawmakers and Mayor Tishaura Jones approved $5 million in funds for the payments in August.

Here's how to find out if you're eligible:

1. City Resident
You must be a City of St. Louis resident. Confirm that you live in St. Louis City by checking your address on the City website.

2. Income Theshold
You must earn at or under 80% of the Area Median Income. See the area median income on this table.

3. Loss of Income
You must have suffered lost income due to the COVID-19 crisis, for reasons including but not limited to cut hours, job loss, funeral expenses and treatment costs.
