SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Southwest Airlines, Lambert's largest provider, is trimming thousands of flights from its summer schedule nationwide.

The frequency of flights to some places like Vegas and Ft. Myers, Florida are being reduced in June. Southwest's STL schedule is down 14 percent over what was planned, still up 23 percent over last year, according to Business Journal data.

Aviation consultant Michael Boyd tells KMOX it's an issue of staffing shortages, plus inlfation expected to slow ticket sales, "St. Louis is fine, I mean Denver's been pulled down, a number of other place have been pulled. Unfortunately or fortunately, St. Louis is not the lone ranger here."

Southwest is the largest carrier at Lambert.

Meantime, leisure carrier Sun Country, with a hub in Minneapolis, no longer shows St. Louis on its route map with no tickets available to buy to its Minneapolis hub.
