The City of St. Charles has shut down the 6th of its 7 water wells due to chemical contamination.

Public Works Director Nick Galla says testing this week showed vinyl chloride in the well. He also notes that help from the federal EPA has been slow in coming. "The City has had to step in and take a lot of actions that are normally done by the EPA to ensure safe water. We have turned off the wells, you know the EPA doesn't direct us to turn off the wells."
"Our plant is capable of producing 6 million gallons a day but we're down to 1 and a half, which is about 25% of its capacity. so the additional warter we're having to purchase from the city of St. Louis," which Galla adds, is expensive.
Ameren has been confirmed as the polluter, but the EPA has yet to announce what the utility company must do about it.
