St. Clair County will get a MetroLink extension later this year that will connect the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport to Lambert International Airport.
Ken Sharkey with the St. Clair County Transit District said the extension should open in September or October.
Once open, the Mascoutah Police Department will provide security at the stop, marking the 12th MetroLink station that the County pays security for.
"We also partner with the Fairview Heights Police Department, Swansea Police Department, Belleville's Police Department, and Shiloh [Police Department]," Sharkey said. "So all four of those current municipalities we've had additional police protection at the MetroLink stations within their communities."
Sharkey added that an additional 15 St. Clair County Sheriff Deputies patrol the MetroLink full-time and provide protection on the trains themselves.
Find out how much St. Clair County is spending on those security efforts at the podcast above.
