ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) - A former police officer and part-time employee at a pediatric hospital has been charged for allegedly soliciting nude photos from someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl, according to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Gregory Ortlip, 56, was a Maryland Heights Police officer at the time of the alleged offense and worked part-time at Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. Cell phone records show Ortlip was at the hospital when he solicited nude photos in an online chat.
He thought he was talking to a young girl, but it was actually a peace officer with the Kentucky Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, police say. He was charged with Enticement or Attempted Enticement of a Child, which is a felony with a sentencing range of five to 30 years in prison with no eligibility of parole for five years. Those convicted must register with the State of Missouri as a sex offender.
“Police officers are sworn to protect the public, not endanger us,” said St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell. “These are deeply disturbing charges.”
