ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - They started out as love letters to his children, but now a north St. Louis man's books written for his daughter and stepson are becoming big sellers and inspiring other children – and even adults.

"These books are essentially a love letter of mine to my kids," Andrew Rucker says.

It was while Rucker was recovering from a stroke two years ago that he decided he would write and illustrate books for his children, even though he doesn't draw.

"I really didn't care if I couldn't draw or not, I wanted these things to get to them," Rucker says. "And somehow they became relatable to other kids and other parents. And it had legs."

He started with what has become an Amazon best seller for Early Education. "Clean Up Bee Bee" was written for his then 18-month-old daughter.

"I wanted to find some way to have my way to teach her and at the particular time it was dealing with numbers and coloring and it had a cool way to teach her how to clean up in her room and she utilized that method to this day," Rucker says.

He then wrote "Chin Up, Chest Out" to help his 10-year-old stepson be proud of himself and withstand bullying. Another one of his books, "See that Bee Bee" helps children start to read.

You can check out the books at Amazon or BeeBeeBooks.com.

He even has a book for adults which he calls a love letter to parents. You can hear my complete interview with Rucker here:
